TECS 390 Final Blog

December 16, 2007

Just about every week I learned something completely new to me. Flickr is an amazing resource for pictures. I liked VoiceThread because presentations can be narrated. LetterPop took the hard out of newsletters and actually made it fun. Slide Share is a great tool for publishing slide presentations, and the information available through the education podcasts is invaluable.

I have already used Flickr and will continue to do so. The photos available on this site are amazing and I can use them to show children the world. Another tool I will use is VoiceThread. While I still am not very good at it, I can see it being a fun tool for my students to use. I think they will enjoy creating presentations with VoiceThread because they can narrate it. I will also use LetterPop in the future. It really was easy to maneuver my text and pictures to create a newsletter. I will use it in the future for communication with parents and my students will use it as well to enhance their learning. I also like Slide Share because it allows slide presentations to be published. When I was building my website, my PowerPoint presentation wouldn’t work. Slide Share allowed me to import my presentation and then I could link it in my website. And finally, I will continue to listen to the educational podcasts. I had no idea they were out there and I will continue to listen them so that I continue to learn.

Outside of the classroom, I will personally use Flickr to manage and share my photos. This way my family and friends can access them and print any they would like to keep. This is easier than me sending them in an email and they may like photos I wouldn’t have picked to send to them.

My favorite podcast presenter is Kevin Honeycutt because he really made my think outside the box. He provided different perspectives on the hot topics and challenges me to continue to learn and find new ways to inspire and engage students.

I liked Megan Ethridge’s website because her home page had links to every other page and I liked the background and buttons. I’d like to know where she found them. I also liked Chris Bonham’s site. He had great pictures and his pages were easy to maneuver in and he brief discussions. I didn’t have to spend a long time reading, he was straight to the point. I also enjoyed Laura Shaw’s website. She had great links for learning activities and help especially for math.

I am pretty happy with my website. I would like to add additional links for help with homework. What I don’t like is that I still struggle with some links like to my iMovie and when I go the VoiceThread link, I can’t get back to the website without reentering the url. My url is http://scatcat.fhsu.edu~dcsetter.
